The best hydroponic nutrients to use will sometimes depend on the specific needs of your plants and the stage of growth they are in.
There are so many brands on the market and we have personally tried nearly all of them, firstly in no way do we want this blog to imply that any products not stocked at A-Grade are bad that’s not the goal here. The goal is to let you know which hydro nutrients and plant foods are the best.
A-Grade Hydroponics is known for testing ‘nearly’ every product that is available in the hydroponics market and our reasoning for stocking them is based on real results so if the product doesn’t outperform the current and carefully chosen proven brands already on the shelves then those nutrients just don’t make the final cut, the brands, Mills, Cyco, Plagron, Hy-Gen and Lost Labs all offer high-quality hydroponic nutrient solutions that are not only popular among growers who care about yield, quality and ease of use, they are consistently reliable grow after grow.
Below are some short descriptions of the nutrient brands and plant foods we sell, we care about your results so we don’t sell every brand, as a business we want to make money but we do have certain ethical standards and its more important to us that you get great returns each grow than just making a dollar on any nutrient brand.
What Nutrients are the best then?
Mills, a Dutch company that offers a wide range of hydroponic nutrients, including base nutrients, supplements, and boosters for different stages of plant growth. Their nutrient solutions are known for high-quality ingredients, and is suitable for a wide range of plants and growing methods. If you are a Coco grower, you will love Mills. Our personal favourite based on a number of factors, yield, aroma, oil production and flavour.
Cyco is another extremely popular brand amongst hydro growers that offers a range of Australian made hydroponic nutrients, including base nutrients, supplements, and additives. They use the highest-quality ingredients available, and their products are formulated to provide optimal nutrition for plants throughout all stages of growth. Great for those in any growing scenario, Coco, Hydroponic systems, timed nutrient reservoirs and it even works in Soil too! Bag appeal and flavour is awesome!
Hy-Gen is another Australian company that offers a range of hydroponic nutrients and supplements that are designed to provide optimal nutrition for plants. Their products are known for their high-quality mineral and organic ingredients, and are suitable for a wide range of plants and growing methods. A great all round nutrient brand that will feed all types of crops, we sell the Coco range of nutrients and our customers will agree that the yield, flavour and bag appeal is bang on every time. In our opinion the flowers come on a little later than the other brands but always flower out and swell to the same potential.
What about New release Products?
Any time a new nutrient range hits the market we generally get offered samples or message those companies and seek their nutrients out for testing. We are currently testing 3 brand new nutrient products to see how they stack up against the current list of heavyweight champs in our hydroponics shop, so this list could expand but only if these products deliver the results! I’m looking forward to seeing the outcomes!
I’d also like to mention, that a lot of customers ask us why we don’t sell Bat Guano well it's simple, yes; Bat guano contains high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, making it an effective fertilizer for plants. However, the manure also contains microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, which can pose a risk to plant and human health.
The high moisture content in guano provides a suitable environment for the growth of pathogens, increasing the risk of contamination. In addition to pathogens, bat guano can also contain high levels of ammonia, a toxic gas that can irritate the eyes, nose, throat, and respiratory system. Prolonged exposure to ammonia can lead to more serious health problems, such as respiratory distress and chemical pneumonia.
Furthermore, bat guano can also contain heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, which can be toxic to plants and humans if not properly processed. Ingesting contaminated plants or inhaling contaminated soil particles can lead to heavy metal poisoning.
"We will never sell bat guano, your health is far more important to us than a few dollars."
Ultimately, the best hydroponic nutrient solutions for you will depend on the specific requirements of you and your plants, the stage of growth or flowering they are in, and your personal preferences. It's always a good idea to carefully read the label and instructions for each product, and to start with lower dosages and gradually increase as you observe the plants growth and development. To wrap this up any of the nutrient brands mentioned above are so widely used with great success that we can be sure you’ll be very happy using them. Make the switch today and get premium results.
