🌿 Supports strong root development and plant health
VERMICULITE 2–4MM is widely used for starting seeds because it holds moisture well while remaining light and aerated. This helps prevent compaction and supports healthy root development during early growth.
Common seeds started in vermiculite include:
Lettuce
Basil
Tomatoes
Capsicum
Eggplant
Cucumber
Spinach
Microgreens
Why vermiculite works well for seed germination:
💧 Maintains consistent moisture levels
🌬️ Provides good oxygen around developing roots
🧼 Naturally sterile, helping reduce the risk of damping-off
Many herbs grow extremely well in VERMICULITE 2–4MM when supplied with a suitable nutrient solution. The media helps maintain even moisture around the roots while allowing sufficient airflow.
Herbs commonly grown in vermiculite:
Basil
Mint
Coriander
Parsley
Chives
Dill
Oregano
These herbs benefit from the consistent moisture levels vermiculite provides.
Leafy vegetables are among the best-performing crops in vermiculite growing media.
Common leafy greens grown in vermiculite include:
Lettuce
Spinach
Rocket (Arugula)
Asian Greens (Bok Choy, Tatsoi, Mizuna)
Kale
These plants perform well because they:
⚡ Grow quickly
🌱 Have shallow root systems
💧 Prefer consistent moisture levels
VERMICULITE 2–4MM is widely used for rooting plant cuttings thanks to its ability to retain moisture while still allowing oxygen to reach developing roots.
Plants commonly propagated in vermiculite include:
Pothos
Coleus
Begonia
Philodendron
Geranium
Sweet Potato Vine
Propagation benefits:
💧 High moisture around developing roots
🌬️ Excellent aeration to encourage root formation
While pure vermiculite can hold a lot of moisture, it performs exceptionally well when mixed with other growing media.
Common potting mix combinations:
Vermiculite + Peat
Vermiculite + Coco Coir
Vermiculite + Perlite
Houseplants that benefit from these mixes include:
Ferns
Peace Lilies
African Violets
Calatheas
Spider Plants
These mixes help maintain balanced moisture and aeration for indoor plants.
