Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) is a hydroponic method where a thin film of nutrient solution flows continuously over the roots of fast-growing, shallow-rooted plants like lettuce, herbs and strawberries. Why grow with an NFT System?

NFT suits plants that grow quickly and stay lightweight, with roots that don’t need to sit in a deep reservoir — which makes it approachable for beginners while still delivering serious yields. A tailored nutrient solution runs continuously over a purpose-built root mat, giving roots constant access to oxygen, hydrogen and nutrition at once. This encourages extremely fast root growth, and day-to-day maintenance is largely limited to standard cleaning and topping up nutrient concentration as it depletes.

How to choose

All three GRO-TANK NFT systems share the same low-profile, 20cm-tall design and come complete with a base reservoir, channel slope, light tray lid, HydroPro 550 water pump, NFT attachment and root matting — the only real decision is length. If you’re just starting out, a shorter tank like the 1.1m is easier to manage and keeps setup costs down. Because the growing medium is limited to the rockwool cube each plant is started in, all three sizes stay low-waste and easy to keep clean between grows.
