FAQ

Q. What is MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) and what does it do?

MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) is a highly concentrated liquid silica supplement from the makers of MAMMOTH P Microbes. It delivers high-bioavailability silicic acid to strengthen plant cell walls, thicken stems, improve cellular development, and increase resilience to environmental stress — all of which support better yields in hydroponic systems.

Q. What are the active ingredients in MAMMOTH SILICA (SI)?

MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) contains 0.1% Total Nitrogen (Nitrate), 0.5% Soluble Potash (K₂O), 0.1% Calcium (Ca), and 0.5% Soluble Silicon (Si) as a non-plant food ingredient. It is derived from Calcium Nitrate, Sodium Molybdate, and Potassium Silicate.

Q. What is the correct use rate for MAMMOTH SILICA (SI)?

MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) has an ultra-low use rate of just 0.13 mL/L, making it one of the most concentrated silica supplements on the market. This keeps costs down while delivering consistent results across every watering.

Q. When should I use MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) — veg or bloom?

MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) is formulated for use throughout the entire growth cycle — from early vegetative growth all the way through the bloom phase. There is no need to switch products or change your dose between stages.

Q. Why do hydroponic plants need a silica supplement like MAMMOTH SILICA (SI)?

Soilless growing media like rockwool, coco coir, and expanded clay contain little to no plant-available silicon. Without supplementation, hydroponic plants can experience silicon deficiency, leading to weaker stems, soft cell walls, and reduced stress tolerance. MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) replenishes this essential mineral throughout your grow.

Q. How does silica strengthen plants?

Silica acts like mortar between plant cells, reinforcing cell walls and creating a sturdier structural framework. This results in thicker stems capable of supporting heavier flowers, more efficient nutrient transport through the plant, and greater resistance to pests, disease, and harsh environmental conditions.

Q. How do I add MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) to my nutrient programme?

Always add MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) first to plain water before introducing any other nutrients. This prevents silica from precipitating when it comes into contact with phosphate-containing nutrient solutions. After adding MAMMOTH SILICA (SI), wait briefly then add your remaining nutrients and adjust pH as required.

Q. Is MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) compatible with all hydroponic systems?

Yes — MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) is suitable for use in hydroponic and continuous liquid feed systems. It is compatible with standard nutrient feeding programmes and can be added to your reservoir as part of your regular watering schedule.

Q. Who makes MAMMOTH SILICA (SI)?

MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) is made by Growcentia, Inc., an agricultural biotechnology company founded by scientists from Colorado State University and the same team behind the popular MAMMOTH P Microbes product.

Q. Can I buy MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) online from A-Grade Hydroponics?

Yes! MAMMOTH SILICA (SI) is available online at A-Grade Hydroponics in 250 mL, 500 mL, and 1 L sizes. Orders are dispatched via Australia Post or Big Post and shipped in unmarked boxes for privacy. Click & Collect is also available from our Cheltenham VIC store.
